FAQ
Who is Cornwall United?

The Cornwall United Soccer Club is a Travel Soccer Club. There is a fall season, an indoor winter tournament season and a spring season. The club is affiliated with the East Hudson Youth Soccer League (www.ehysl.org), which is a member of AYSA and the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association. The EHYSL's area encompasses the Hudson Valley, west of the Hudson River as far south as New Jersey, the western boundary of Pennsylvania and south of Albany. We currently field both girls & boys travel teams in the U8-U18 brackets. Currently there are thirteen(13) Cornwall United Soccer Teams.

Does my child have to tryout for a team, and is he/she guaranteed a spot on a team?

Cornwall United holds open tryouts each spring for the upcoming fall/spring season. Selection
of players is dependent upon skill level, open roster & team slots and coaching staff availability. The difference between the spring open tryout and today’s open house is that during the spring open tryout, ALL players (new and returning) will have their skills assessed, and team placements may be made based on those assessments. Returning players must attend tryouts each year, and are not guaranteed a spot on a team. One of our long-term initiatives is to have two teams at every age group (boys and girls).

During open tryouts in the spring, players may try out for any team they wish. It is possible for a child that was placed on one team to be placed on another team after the tryouts. The Board, in conjunction with the professional trainers and coaches, reserves the right to assess each player and make the placements it feels makes the most sense based on skill level, team composition, and coaching availability.

What is the commitment level on the part of my child and me?

All of our teams generally have practices twice per week for 1.5 hours each. We also have games on Sunday afternoons anywhere between noon and 5 pm. During our winter indoor season, this commitment may vary.

Am I going to have to travel all over the place for games?

A common misperception of the travel program is that we travel “all over the place.” That is simply not true. We have approximately 5 away games per season, and those are in the Hudson Valley area. It usually takes approximately 1 hour at the most to get to any away game. Home games are usually either at Cornwall Middle School or Laurel Crest Field.

Who will be coaching and training my child?

As part of Cornwall United’s evolution, we will be requiring all head coaches to complete at minimum, an 8 hour course and obtain a state class "F" license from the Eastern NY Soccer Association, so they are prepared and dedicated to coach your child. In addition, each team receives one night of professional training per week, for the fall, winter and spring seasons. These professional trainers are “masters of their trade”, and have played at the highest collegiate level, or in many cases professional level

What does it cost, and what do I get?

Each player’s yearly fee covers the following:
1. Outdoor field usage and indoor space for the winter
2. “Adidas” game uniform, 2 practice jerseys, and Adidas club ball
3. Registration with the East Hudson Youth Soccer League – the league in which we play
4. Paint, and other field maintenance costs
5. Professional training 1 x per week for each season
6. Referee fees
All costs with the exception of the professional training are “fixed”, so new players must pay the same costs as those that joined us this fall with the exception of the fall training session. Please note that tournaments are above and beyond this fee, and are incurred on a team by team basis.

What if money is tight but we want to be a part of Cornwall United Soccer?

Our philosophy is that whenever possible, we will not turn a player or family away if they are truly committed to the program and the game, and simply can’t afford it. If finances are an issue, please provide a brief letter describing your situation. Financial support will be provided on a first come, first serve basis, and all requests may not be granted. All letters will be kept confidential.

Will we be required to do Fundraising?

In order to continue to develop as a club (and support our families needing support), we recently created a Marketing & Fundraising Committee. They are in the process of developing a plan that we will use Club-wide to meet our financial goals. Everyone will be expected to support these initiatives so that we all can benefit from the
